Light - DigiDIRECT COMP

So I am subscribe to DigiDIRECT TV on youtube which is an Photography Show funded by a shop in DigiDIRECT.com.au They run a Competition once a month this was my first time trying my had and while I don’t believe I will win it was good fun to have a go at it. The theme was “light” pretty open, and there lots of cool stop of the google+ page for the competition appearing wroth a look in fact.

I set the F stop nice and high and the shutter at 500 of a second if I remember right, My goal was the get the Light right for the streams of light coming between the clouds. Than later I edited the pictures by doing the following.

  • Pushed the center levels (this made the areas other the clouds darker, Also added more deep to the clouds and the grayness)
  • Than I crushed the blacks and bit (again make the areas darker)
  • Than I darken the shadows
  • Brighten the Highlights to make the streams of light stand out more.

Now I had great fun doing this, I just happen to spot the clouds the right way in a nice framing and ran for the camera. If you wish to enter the video for the comp is here

Shockingly Good Weather on the Beach

May 31, 2013 in Arty Images, Landscape, People, Photgraphy

So to the surprise of everyone living on the lovely isle of Ireland we have lovely sun shinny and want seem to be a beautiful summer … for all of 2 days, As we Irish are well use to the false hope of good weather, we ran out into the sun! Here at Dollymount Beach the family when and myself being me grabbed my Camera as we left.

Now first off one of these photos is not mine, it was is named that but it is a very nice picture so I decided to upload it anyway. (it is clearly name that it not mine and I am in it so I am really not claiming it).

This gave me a chance to frame up some very nice (if I do say so myself) Arty shots, Should as the on of the paddler in the sea (The Irish Sea to be clear). The lone person standing off in the distance, This was all taken on the one lens on my Canon EOS 60D, which was the Canon 20 to 35mm F2.8 L its an old lens but its still brilliant all the same and I can a good deal normal about €600 around me for it second hand I got it for €300 so i was very very happy.

Now you many notice the panorama photo now I did this as a crop of a standard 3:2 photo, the reason for this was far to much sky in the picture and also it was a very nice panorama shot. Also when you shoot on a camera like the 60d at 18 million pixel one can get away with crops like this.

All of the picture where taken with the picture style, “cinestyle”, and as it was very bright i end up having to add a lot of saturation to the pictures ;)

Chai Yo Teppanyaki

May 19, 2013 in People, Personal, Photgraphy

I went out for a meal with family and friends, To a lovely little restaurant on Baggot Street in Dublin called Chai Yo where they do a meal type called Teppanyaki where the meal is cook right in front of you. They also do lots of entertainment things with you as the Cook, Flipping eggs, throwing food at you to catch in your mouth and of course playing with fire ;)

Both the food and the entertainment was wonderful and have to say it was one of the best meals I have had in a restaurant. Chai Yo only have three of these tables which have to of course be booked in advance and I recommend going in a group of 6 to 8 people the large group means you have a lot more fun. they do have a normal restaurant area down stair but I didn’t try it. And fair warning the teppanyaki being want it is, is well pricey but well worth the money for a nice night out or birthday meal.

As you can see from the pictures it was great fun and brilliant to see such fresh food cooked in front of your eyes. In fact the Chief decided that he didn’t like the cut of some of the fish and ran off to get better ones done for us.

A Night Shoot, In Dublin City

December 21, 2012 in Arty Images, Long Exposure, Night, People, Photgraphy, Street

So Myself and two friends (I know shocking I have two friends) when out for a night shot in Dublin City along the quays, So it turned out great for myself, Patrick and Caoimhe (check out her Blog and pictures) that there some type of fair/market on that night.

Now First off all this picture of mine, It is up to the other two what they do with their pictures. I had great fun (I believe it safe to say we all did) and went out with the goal of not to take to many pictures but to frame each one and think about it before I shot it. It was a good challenge and I will admit that I did at one point go back to snapping away but I caught myself and stopped.

I would like if you could buy SD cards for cameras that you could put a photo limit on, so your could say lock at 36 picture before you go out and than see what you could do with a roll of film, but also one you could later return to normal so that you have full use of the card again other wise it is a waste of money and in this day an age who would buy a pure 36 picture card…. well other than me

You may notice the Luas Shot (that’s is train for people not in Ireland) with the high grain level, that was a goal I was testing something out and messing not sure if I like it or hate it but I let you guys pick

There where two lens i was using on my Canon Eos 60D on this trip, which where the kit 18 to 135mm which work well as an everyday lens till someone buys me or I some how makes lots of money and get the 24 to 70mm L. The other lens was he canon 50mm 1.8 f which it cheap and plasticly as hell the images off it are beautiful and its a lens I think anyone use the canon system should get!  (Example of the 50mm is the Picture of Patrick Smith)

Arty Flower Pictures from Random Places

October 14, 2012 in Arty Images, Flowers, Personal, Photgraphy

Since I got My Camera Have take a number of pictures of flowers as I have seen them, Odd for a straight guy I know but still there nice pictures and that’s what I am after.

There are pretty much all taken on different days, Some even months apart. But Thought I would share them with you. Please feel free to comment with anything thoughts you have about them. My personal favorite is the Yellow Ones I have titled “Random Flowers, Dublin City” I found them in a random pot as I was traveling in around Dublin City.

Street Stalking

March 26, 2012 in Arty Images, People, Personal, Photgraphy, Street

Ok I am not stalking people, just was doing a bit of street photography, which for anyone that doesn’t know you head to some busy streets with your camera ready to see want you will get. This is the first time I tried it and the reason for the few shoots is that I was out with someone that didn’t have a camera so I didn’t wish to be thanking pictures all the time and not spending time with the person I am out.

A tip I will give to anyone that is thinking of doing some street photography, remember that your are going to be holding you camera out in the open as you look for shoots to take, so its a good idea to have someone there with you so that no one tries to rob you ;) . (That said I done it by myself before). Next remember not everyone like getting the picture taken, For example when lining up a shot that day I took these. This Very large “black” (I have given up trying to figger out the correct word if this is wrong people tell me I will correct it)  walked into the frame as he was passing though, saw the camera and gave a “Don’t take a picture of me or I kill you” look. So i lower the camera waiting for him to pass no need to annoy people but just remember there are people out there that don’t want their picture taken. also check the laws on talking picture of people in public areas.

For example here in Ireland, I can take people of anyone in public area. So long as said person don’t inform you other wise and that I don’t go along and make money from them (from the words I am guessing it using there image in an adverting campaign and the like). Having Said all that if you are in Ireland don’t take my word for it! check this yourself it may have changed or I maybe wrong.

Right so there are a Number of pictures, Which you can look though please feel free to comment and give me any tips and that.
